Beth's Triathlon

On June 5, Beth raced in a triathlon. She did amazing! I can't even imagine pushing myself that hard in training and actually finishing! Great job Beth, you're a great example!

Beth, Ryan, Dylan, my mom and I went to California this past June and it was SO fun!! We did the give a day of service get a free Disney day thing at The Living Planet Aquarium so we got free tickets! We also went to the beach one of the days!

Last Day of School!!

I've loved this year of school, but I am so ready for summer! My classes have been more intense with nonstop homework, so I want a break! Luckily for me, summer came before a giant breakdown!! Haha, I almost didn't make it! These pictures are of my friends and I on the last day! At my school we get yearbooks the last day and have a big barbecue, so it's just a big party!

AP Art History Music Videos

My AP Art History teacher assigned us all to make a music videos using images we've learned about through the year. It was a great way to end the year and I had so much fun making mine! The other videos were made by past students and my friends!

Prom 2010

Way back on April 17, my school had their prom! Luckily, my school doesn't have date dances, so a group of my friends and I just go and have tons of fun! For dinner we went to Sweet Tomatoes, yummy and then headed up to prom! I danced the entire three hours of the dance, except the slow dances! The theme was a masquerade, so that's why some of us are wearing masks!

Grand Canyon

This past weekend, my mom, brother, sister-in-law and I went to Saint George! We went down to see my grandparents. The first day we were there, we went to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon! It was really fun! There are pictures of the canyon, my family, vegetation, a lizard, a deer, beautiful sunsets and whatever else is shown above! It was great to spend time with my family and see my grandparents again!

Showcase Pieces

In the showcase this past week I had my painting, in the previous post, a shattered image of a jellyfish and an ink print. The shattered image was created by drawing whatever we wanted, drawing lines across the paper and shape, choosing a light source and shading each shape according to the light source. The subject for the print was, draw your phobia. I chose "clutter-phobia", I don't remember the real name. This print shows shelves, similar to the ones in my room, that are meticulously organized. When things are cluttered, I stress and am grumpy, so I prefer neatness. To create the print, we carved our design out of foam board, rolled ink onto it and pressed it between books while stepping on them.

Chuck Close-esque Self Portrait

As an assignment for my Studio Art class, my teacher told us to do a Chuck Close-esque self portrait. The picture at the top is the picture I started out with for mine. My brother took this of me at Halloween last year and I decided I wanted to paint it. The pictures that follow show the different phases and progression of the painting and the layers of paint. Chuck Close is a photo-realist painter that focuses on portraits of people. The point of this project was to help us learn color theory. When two colors are placed next to eachother, your eye blends the colors to create a different color. For example, in Seurat's Sunday Afternoon on La Grande Jatte, he uses a pointillism technique. This means the entire painting is made of tiny dots. To make the trees look green he combines use of yellow and blue dots because if you mix yellow and blue, you would get green. From a distance, your eye automatically blends the colors. (The very top picture is Seurat's.) This project was so much fun! It was almost entirely creative, so I didn't have to think too much. Each square is a random design purely from imagination combined with what I learned about color theory. Everyone in my class did amazing because no matter what you do, you can't make it look bad.
