In my Studio Art class, our first assignment of the year was to design and build a 3-dimensional letter using 2 pieces of chip board with cups between to connect them and packing tape to make the edges. First, I brainstormed ideas for a while and sketched them all out. My favorite ended up being an A in a trellis like design with a grapevine wrapping around it. You have to sketch your design on the chip board, cut it with an exacto knife, wrap it in packing tape, cover it with gesso and then paint the design on it. It was such a pain! The tape, believe it or not, is so sticky and sticks everywhere you don't want it to go and the gesso flakes off. In the end, I turned it in for a grade, took a picture and threw it in the dumpster!
